About
Sunset Ridge Boxers
Our dogs are tested for health and temperment. All of our breeding dogs are extensively health tested to ensure we are breeding the best quality of the boxer breed. We do this in order to preserve the best of the boxer breed, as it helps us diminish the risk of passing along any genetic problems they can have.
We test for Degenerative Myelopathy, AVRC, Hip Dysplasia, and thyroid disease. We also have an echocardiogram and EKG done by a board certified cardiologist. Before each breeding, we have our veterinarian thoroughly examine each dog. This also assures us we are going into each litter with a healthy Sire and Dam for the best possible boxer puppies. Each of these tests are certified through OFA and can be found on OFA’s website for each dog.

Each dog's temperament is also of great importance. Each dog is extensively socialized within different circumstances to guarantee a socially skilled dog. We engage our dogs with children, elderly, and other pets. This ensures that we are breeding the best possible temperment of the boxer breed.

We as boxer breeders recognize that boxers have a great deal of enthusiasm and exuberance for people, children, and pets .We also trail train our dogs with obedience for off leash hiking. This helps to provide the great deal of exercise that boxers need and helps to maintain a healthy life, keeping our dogs happy. The Boxers are a working class dog which need daily exercise and play time. Daily walks/hikes, playing fetch, and frisbee tossing are a few of the things we like to do to keep our dogs healthy.

Our Story

Our story with breeding boxers began in 1986 when I was in college to be a veterinary technician, and my now husband and I were dating. His uncle had a boxer that had puppies, and I fell in love with the Boxers then. Since my husband had grown up with boxers, he already had love for the breed. One day I came home from college, and my husband, then boyfriend, had a brand new Boxer male pup. A beautiful Fawn classic male that we named Duke. Duke was what we call an American Boxer. We bred his line until 2011, and the last of that line passed away in 2015.
When our son Adam moved back home in 2020 while waiting for his home to be built, he adopted a Boxer mix named Leia. We realized how much we had missed having a Boxer in our home, with their crazy antics, loving, and adoring personalities. When Leia and Adam moved out, we knew we had to adopt a Boxer once again and with our three son's help and encouragement, we started looking to adopt once again. The European Boxers are what my research led me to find. We found that the Euopeans are a little bit different than their American counterparts. They are sturdier, larger in stature, and tend to be healthier, some even say they are not as elegant as the American Boxers. I was a veterinarian technician for many years, and saw the health problems that different breeds can have. Knowing that Boxers are a hearty breed, combined with their favorable personalities and characteristics, ultimately lead us to return to breeding the Boxers.
The dog we have came from the midwest and I waited for a year and half for our first European female named Bee. I wanted the healthiest dog with the best disposition. We found several breeders who tested their sires and dams for all of the genetic problems the breed can have.
I can say we are so in love with the European Boxers. They are the most loving, loyal, energetic and happy dogs . We decided, out of love of the European Boxers, to ensure we put the best possible Boxers out there for a special family to love and cherish as we love and cherish all of our Boxers. Our sons help raise and co-own some of our Boxers. We wanted all of our Boxers to be family raised and not raised in a kennel with our sons becoming the second generation of Boxer breeders.
